Frequently asked questions

Below are the answers to many of the questions we get asked. If we haven't answered your question here or you want to talk to us about anything else, head over to our contact page.

1

What technologies do you use?

The front end of a website or application is developed using HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript (often with AJAX).

The web applications are generally written in PHP with a MySQL database in a MVC architecture. Most of our sites are written for a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP) environment but we have also developed sites that run on Windows running IIS and MSSQL as well as various other configurations.

2

Do you provide hosting?

In order to simplify the development process we provide hosting for the majority of our clients. Hosting with us is not a requirement but we offer hosting on one of our shared client servers or managed dedicated server solutions.

3

Will your work be accessible?

Accessibility is crucial to the success of your website. All websites and applications are designed to W3C accessibility standards and tested in the most popular browers.

4

Will my site be optimised for search engines?

We set up each site with the right tools to index well in the major search engines, including sitemaps, friendly urls and analytics data. Content and inbound links are the biggest factors in search engine placement - we offer support and advice on the best way to optimise your content and get people linking to you without breaking any guidelines that may get your site penalised.

5

How do we get a quote?

Just get in touch. In order to provide a full quote we will require a detailed specification for the project. You can either submit one or we can create one based on some initial discussions with you.

If you would like an estimate for a project before getting technical we can provide you with a ballpark figure based on some basic details.

6

Do you offer support after completing a project?

Once a site is complete there are a number of options for ongoing support, should you require it. For larger sites that require constant support we would suggest one of our maintenance contracts. Alternatively we provide ad-hoc support on an hourly basis.
